The shoot-root transport of transcription factor HY5

Plants compete with each other for light resources. They do so by increasing their elongation growth based on a Far-Red light signal, which is generated from reflected light of neighbouring plants. This Far-Red light perceived by the shoot also leads to a change in root growth: less lateral roots grow out. This process is regulated by the transcription factor HY5. It is a central hub of light signaling and a repressor of auxin signaling in the root. HY5 can be transported from shoot to root and I will show my latest work in the understanding of HY5 transport and its subsequent unloading from the phloem.
