9) ESEB welcomes applications to the ESEB Outreach Fund - deadlines September    15, March 15

1) Výzva v rámci Operačního programu Praha – Konkurencechopnost - do 10. 12. 2014

Výzva se týká rozvoje inovačního prostředí mezi základnou výzkumu a vývoje a praxí.  V rámci ní lze čerpat např. na vznik nových a rozvoj stávajících inovačních jednotek, pořízení přístrojového a laboratorního vybavení atp. Podrobnější informace k Výzvě jsou obsaženy v přiloženém dokumentu na webových stránkách.

Ukončení příjmu žádostí je sice stanoveno na 10.12.2014, ale výzva je vyhlášena jako průběžná, do vyčerpání alokace. Je tedy vhodné projektové žádosti podávat co nejdříve, než dojde k ukončení jejich příjmu z důvodu vyčerpání alokace.

2) První výzva k nové iniciativě: START - Danube Region Project Fund - do 17. 9. 2014

V současnosti je otevřena výzva nové iniciativy START - Danube Region Project Fund k předkládání návrhu projektů.

Výzva bude otevřena do 17. září 2014.

Veškeré relevantní dokumenty k přihlášce naleznete v sekci START na webových stránkách Oblasti priority 10. ("Stepping up institutional capacity and cooperation" - Tato priorita Podunajské strategie EU je koordinována Hlavním městem Vídní (Rakousko) a Centrem excelence ve finančnictví (Slovinsko) za účasti širokého spektra klíčových hráčů.

3) The Jurassic Foundation: Research Grants - dinosaurs - vždy do 15. 10. a 15. 3.

WHO MAY APPLY
Students, postdoctoral researchers, and other scientists with limited funding opportunities may apply to the Jurassic Foundation for grants to undertake research on any aspect of dinosaur paleontology (e.g., field exploration, fossil preparation or conservation, morphology, taxonomy, systematics, evolution, paleobiology, paleoecology, paleobiogeography, taphonomy). Researchers from economically developing nations are especially encouraged to apply; however, prospective non-student, non-postdoctoral applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the Jurassic Foundation President prior to beginning an application to discuss the suitability of the project. Also, please note that the Jurassic Foundation no longer makes repeat awards to the same investigator; in other words, if a person has received a Jurassic Foundation grant in the past, they are no longer eligible to receive additional grants.

APPLICATION DEADLINES 
Two granting cycles are held each year. The deadlines for these cycles areMarch 15 and October 15; all applications must be e-mailed or postmarked by these dates. Applicants will be notified by June 15 and January 15, respectively, regarding the status of their application.

AWARD AMOUNTS
Grants of up to $3,000 will be awarded to successful applicants. However, most grants average between $1,000 and $2,000. All grants are paid in U.S. funds and all budget requests must be in U.S. dollars.

REVIEW OF GRANT APPLICATIONS
All grant applications are reviewed by the five members of the Jurassic Foundation Scientific Board of Directors. Applications are not sent out for ad hoc reviews.

AVAILABILITY OF RESEARCH RESULTS
Grantees are expected to make the results of their research available to other researchers and the public via publication in peer-reviewed journals, books, lectures, presentations at scientific meetings, web sites, etc. Specimens collected under a Jurassic Foundation grant must be accessioned into the collections of a public institution. The Jurassic Foundation reserves the right to participate in the announcement of scientific discoveries resulting from Foundation-funded research.

RESEARCH REPORTS
All grantees are required to submit a brief, one-page summary of work completed under their grant. These reports must be submitted upon completion of the project, and should be sent to current Jurassic Foundation President Matthew Lamanna via e-mail (lamannam@carnegiemnh.org) or by regular mail to the following address:

4) Toomey Foundation for the Natural Sciences

Grant Application

The Toomey Foundation welcomes anyone to apply for grants as long as such requests meet the Foundation’s criteria for funding. The following requirements must be met before a grant proposal is reviewed.

• Requests must be submitted by a not-for-profit organization and include a letter of support for the grant application on the organization’s letterhead from the applicant’s supervisor or board. *Must be submitted by mail.
• Requests should clearly indicate the benefit to science and / or education.
• All grants must be specific and have a projected completion date.

Grant requests are reviewed on a quarterly basis and may be funded in whole or in part. Applications may be returned for additional information. All grants need to be clear, concise and include the following information:

5) Mezinárodní fórum ke spolupráci univerzit a podniků

Evropská komise ve spolupráci s Konferencí italských rektorů organizují v rámci italského předsednictví v Radě EU ve dnech 2. – 3. října 2014 v Římě Mezinárodní fórum ke spolupráci vysokých škol a podnikatelského sektoru pod názvem „Universities, Businesses and Co: Together We Can. Strategic Inter-sectorial Partnerships for Economic and Social Change and Growth“. K tématům patří: reforma a otevírání vzdělávání, zakládání podniků a zaměstnatelnost, strategické aliance a tvorba ekosystémů. Další informace jsou k dispozici zde.

6) Nové vydání Bulletinu European IPR Helpdesk

European IPR Helpdesk zveřejnil další číslo svého Bulletinu, č. 14 na červenec – září 2014. Z obsahu vyjímáme: přehled iniciativ poskytujících bezplatnou podporu MSP v oblasti IP, ochrana průmyslového vzoru v EU, relevantnost IP pro biotechnologický sektor, nová modelová konsorciální smlouva (DESCA 2020) pro projekty Horizont 2020, dva články OHIM (Úřad pro harmonizaci na vnitřním trhu), kvíz o patentech, informační balíček o IP v Horizontu 2020 a další. 7) Výzva Programu na podporu inovací a technologií - do 30. 9. 2014

Program na podporu inovací a technologií (Innovation and Technology Support Programme, ITSP), realizovaný vládou Zvláštního administrativního regionu Hongkong, podporuje výzkumné a vývojové projekty, které převážně řeší vysoké školy, výzkumná centra, průmyslové organizace, profesní orgány či obchodní a průmyslová sdružení. V současnosti je otevřená druhá výzva k předkládání žádostí o finanční podporu v r. 2014 v rámci řady 2 a 3. Výzva se uzavře 30. září 2014. Další informace jsou dostupné zde.

8) The Eppley Foundation for Research (USA) - do 15. 9. a 15. 3.

Funding Priorities

The Eppley Foundation for Research was incorporated in 1947 for the purpose of "increasing knowledge in pure or applied science...in chemistry, physics and biology through study, research and publication."

Today the Foundation funds projects in medicine, life sciences and the physical sciences. Particular areas of interest include innovative medical investigations and applications, endangered animals and ecosystems, and climate change.

The Foundation does not support work in the social sciences, education or computer science, and only rarely funds research into diseases that have considerable financial support available, such as AIDS, diabetes, cancer and heart disease.

The Foundation does not fund work that can qualify for funding from conventional sources such as the National Science Foundation or the National Institutes of Health, or similar agencies at the state level. We consider the most effective use of our limited funds to be research-initiation grants, with the understanding that sufficient work can be performed to enable the investigator to apply for greater sums from federal or other sources.

It is important to the Foundation that the work proposed be novel in its insights and unlikely to be underway elsewhere. The Foundation is prepared to take risks.

How to Apply

Who may apply 
The Eppley Foundation supports advanced scientific research by Ph.D.s or M.D.s with an established record of publication in their specialties. Candidates with newly awarded doctorates occasionally, but rarely, meet the Foundation's requirements for advanced research. Any applicant to the Foundation must be associated with a recognized educational or research institution with 501(c)3 status; a nonprofit organization. Funds are not issued directly to individuals.

Grants may be awarded for research in foreign countries but only when such applicants are US-based or associated with a US institution that will administer the grant on their behalf. The Foundation rarely considers proposals from foreign nationals studying in the US solely because they are therefore unable to qualify for federal funds.

The proposal 
Letters of inquiry, not to exceed four pages, should be received by September 15th or March 15th. Submissions in advance of those deadlines are encouraged. Invited grant proposals are considered during board meetings in December and June of each year. For invited proposals, due on October 15 or April 15, there is no page limit, but the proposal is expected to be concise and incorporate clear statements of significance, objectives, novelty, methods, expectations of success, and why the researcher believes the work cannot reasonably expect federal support, or support from other conventional funding sources. There should also be a discussion of the broader ramifications of your work once it is completed.

Notification of a successful application usually follows within two weeks of board meetings. A true emergency may be considered outside this schedule.

Required documents

• Candidates should fill out an application form to accompany their grant proposals.
• Two letters of reference are required from scientists acquainted with the investigation and with the researcher in search of support. The letters should accompany the grant proposals.
• A cv should be included for each investigator.
• Include a budget, as described below.

Budgeting the Grant Request

The Eppley Foundation for Research is a small, family foundation that disburses up to $250,000 a year. Dozens of proposals compete annually for this modest sum.

The Foundation does not provide operating funds. The Foundation will fund a specific investigation in its entirety or a specified portion of a larger project. In the case of the latter, the Foundation requires assurance that all funds will be in hand at the time the research begins to ensure that the work proposed can be completed. When the Foundation is asked to fund the first year of a multiple-year investigation, all funds must be committed at the time of initiation in order to ensure that the work can be sustained until its completion.

An itemized budget should accompany all proposals, and a budget justification. The Foundation limits its contribution to overhead to 15 percent. Travel and fringe benefits do not qualify for overhead allocation.

The grant proposal may include requests for equipment, but the Foundation does not fund proposals that are primarily for equipment.

9) ESEB welcomes applications to the ESEB Outreach Fund - deadlines September 15, March 15

The European Society for Evolutionary Biology (ESEB) welcomes applications to the ESEB Outreach Fund for projects 
that promote evolution-related activities. The goal of this initiative is to improve public knowledge about evolution globally. 

Applications for funding will be accepted for educational initiatives that promote evolution, development of evolutionary material (books, films, websites) intended for a general audience, public outreach seminars, public exhibitions, etc. While most projects will be financed for a sum between 1000 - 1500 Euro, exceptions can be made if a strong argument is provided for additional funds.

The application form can be found on www.eseb.org  (click on the "Outreach Fund" link). Applications will be accepted twice yearly (deadlines March 15, September 15) and should be submitted by email to Ute Friedrich (office@eseb.org; Subject: Outreach). 
 

10) 17. ročník Ceny Wernera von Siemense vyhlášen!

Sedmnáctý ročník jedinečné soutěže na podporu české vědy a vysokého školství byl vyhlášen. Studenti a vědci mohou své práce a projekty přihlašovat na stránkách společnosti Siemens. V loňském ročníku zabodovala i naše fakulta. Cenu pro nejlepšího pedagogického pracovníka získal doc. Jan Černý z katedry buněčné imunologie.

V letošním ročníku čeká účastníky, tedy lépe řečeno účastnice, jedna novinka – z přihlášených prací, jejichž autorkami jsou ženy, vybere porota pod vedením rektora VUT Brno, prof. RNDr. Ing. Petra Štěpánka, CSc., tu nejlepší a její autorka získá finanční odměnu. „Rád jsem přijal záštitu nad nově vzniklým oceněním, které v rámci Ceny Wernera von Siemense podporuje zapojení žen ve vědě a výzkumu. Jsem přesvědčen, že jedním ze základních předpokladů pro rozvoj a úspěšnou budoucnost vědy a výzkumu nejen v ČR, je vytvoření podmínek a zvýšení motivace žen pro práci ve výzkumu a v pedagogických činnostech na vysokých školách“, řekl Petr Štěpánek.

Cena Siemens je jediným projektem svého druhu, který soustavně podporuje českou vědu a školství nezávisle na škole, tématu či spolupráci s firemním sektorem.

11) ERC informuje o pokročilých grantech - Advanced Grants - do 21. 10. 2014

Evropská rada pro výzkum (ERV) zveřejnila na svých internetových stránkách informace o pokročilých grantech ERC - Advanced Grants. ERC Advanced Grants "umožňují mimořádně etablovaným výzkumným představitelům jakékoli národnosti a jakéhokoli věku, provádět průlomové a vysoce rizikové projekty, které otevírají nové směry v příslušných oblastech jejich výzkumu nebo v jiných doménách". Financování pokročilých grantů se zaměřuje na výzkumníky, kteří se již etablovali jako nezávislé vedoucí osobnosti výzkumu.

Aktuální termín pro podání přihlášek je 21.října 2014, žádosti budou posuzovány pouze na základě vědecké excelence.
