National Maritime Museum and the Society Dutch Historical Maritime Museum - fellowships

The National Maritime Museum and the Society Dutch Historical Maritime Museum promote scientific research on the museum’s collection. A special foundation has been set up and every year three fellowships are granted to students and academics from the Netherlands and abroad: the Dr. Ernst Crone fellowship, the Mr. Peter Rogaar fellowship and the Prof. J.C.M. Warnsinck fellowship.

 

The National Maritime Museum develops its collection around five main themes and has defined five research areas connected to the five main themes: Sailing folk, Water recreation, Art and the maritime world, The Dutch and the other and Innovation in shipbuilding. We kindly ask candidates who wish to apply for a fellowship to submit a proposal within these frameworks. Read more about the application procedure.You can download the application form here.

1)

  • Offered once a year.
  • Maximum grant award is €30,000.
  • Grant award may be extended either to the candidate or employer.
  • Candidates of all disciplines and nationalities are encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates must be university graduates.
  • Applications must include at least two academic references.
  • Research must lead to an academic publication.
  • Candidates are expected to arrange for the publication of their work independently.
  • If desired the museum will provide a flex workplace during normal business hours and research facilities in the museum depot.

 

2)

  • Offered once a year.
  • Maximum grant award is €7,500.
  • Grant award may be extended either to the candidate or employer.
  • Research proposal must be related to one or more aspects of the relationship between the Netherlands and the Baltic region.
  • Candidates of all disciplines and nationalities are encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates must be university graduates.
  • Applications must include at least two academic references.
  • Research must lead to an academic publication.
  • Candidates are expected to arrange for the publication of their work independently.

 

3)

  • Offered once a year.
  • Maximum grant award is €2,500.
  • The grant award will be paid to the candidate personally.
  • Candidates of all disciplines and nationalities who are registered at a university are encouraged to apply.
  • Applications must include at least one academic reference.
  • The research must lead to a special dissertation and/or publication.
  • Candidates are expected to make independent proposals for the publication of their work.
