HKGC is an international meeting that brings together earth scientists working in Afghanistan and surrounding countries along the Alpine-Himalayan Belt. It was founded in 2007 to overcome the more than 30 years break in geological research in Afghanistan, due to the various conflicts. The purpose was to start geological activities and to evaluate information about raw material, water resources, geologic hazards, and geo-mechanical problems. The conference takes place every two years and it welcomes all varieties of contributions (from all geoscience fields) that can help to increase knowledge in geoscience disciplines.
