The Alliance strives to create a new quality of cooperation in teaching, education, research and administration. The cooperation is based on a common understanding of the idea of the European university that builds on academic freedom and autonomy and ensures fair access and participation in education.
The partnership stems from existing bilateral and multilateral collaboration of four universities (Heidelberg Universität, Sorbonne Université, University of Warsaw, Charles University) established in March 2018. It aims to enhance and widen the current collaboration of the participating institutions.
In the late 2018 the former alliance was joined by two other excellent research universities: University of Milan and University of Copenhagen, and was named 4EU+.
The 4EU + alliance has succeeded in the pilot call for proposals of the European University's Erasmus + programme. Its financial support will facilitate further deepening of the consortium partnership, which aims to develop a new quality of cooperation in teaching, education, research and administration, needed to face the challenges of the 21st century.
