Rare exhibits Map collections have been entered into the UNESCO Memory of World register

On Thursday, April 5, 2018, in the National Technical Museum's cinema, a festive performance of original documents originated in the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage Register was held. Charles University's Faculty of Natural Sciences - succeeded in the world's competition with Camoci's maps of the siege of Malta in 1565. The nomination was prepared in cooperation with the Maltese partners, whose representatives also attended the ceremony at the Ministry of Culture.

Information about the map, which was registered in 2017 in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Thanks to the cataloging and digitization of the Map Collection of the Faculty of Science, a unique map of the siege of Malta from 1565 by Giovanni Francesco Camocia was discovered. The digitized map is available HERE.

The map is part of a 4-part collection that reported on the course of the Battle of the Port on the northeastern coast of Malta. Versions 1, 3 and 4 are located in the Maltese collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta. The serial number 2 is in the form of a single preserved specimen in the Map Collection of the Faculty of Science. The author of all 4 maps is an Italian Renaissance printer and publisher Giovanni Francesco Camocio. Camocio worked in Venice and used the pyramid as a printing sign.
