Cotutelle

Cotutelle is a specific type of joint study where the student is enrolled in a doctoral study programme at Charles University as well as in another university abroad. This ensures joint supervision of the dissertation by two supervisors, one of each partner institution, and a join defence of it.

Information and guidelines of Cotutelle can be found here.

The conditions of study are specified in Rector's Directive no. 9/2016 (available in Czech only).

It is highly advised to read through these sources very carefully. This article provides only additional information related to the procedures at the Faculty of Science of Charles University.

Both universitie enter into an individual agreement for the join supervision of the dissertation. This agreement sets out the conditions, timetable and other requirements for the study and defence of the dissertation. It is signed by the doctoral candidate, their supervisors, the Dean and the Rector of the Faculty and other relevant representatives of the partner institution. Charles University provide approved templates of such agreement. It is recommended to use those.

The agreement must be prepared in cooperation with the dissertation supervisors. The chair of the departmental board of the study programme will then provide any factual information needed.
