Our library was founded by Dr. Emanuel Rádl, who was the head of the department of methodology and history of science of the Charles University in Prague. After 1950 departments of marxism-leninism were established at every faculty of the Charles university and the library served solely the purposes of teaching marxist philosophy. After 1990, when the department was established again under the guidance of professor Zdeněk Neubauer, the library was reorganised to serve its original purpose. The library contains over 10,000 volumes focusing mainly on history of science and on philosophy. It has the most extensive collection of philosophical literature after the library of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University and that of the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
