LECTURE: Yasuhiro UOZUMI - Novel Pincer Palladium Complexes: Their Preparation and Properties

Professor Yasuhiro UOZUMI will deliver the lecture in the QuoVadis Chemie serie. The lecture will take place at Ch-2 lecture room on Monday 28th at 3 p.m.

,

Abstrakt:.

In this lecture following topics will be presented:

1) A novel synthetic route (ligand introduction route) for preparing NCN pincer complexes was developed.

2) Coodination properties of the NCN palladium pincer complex were investigated to provide an index of coordinating abilities of various monodentate ligands to ArPdX species.

3) Catalytic properties of the NCN pincer complexes will also be discussed.

4) Architecture-based reaction systems of transition metal catalysis using amphiphilic pincer palladium complexes bearing hydrophilic and hydrophobic chains were developed.

The highlight of this lecture will be the topics (4) where (i) the self-assembling formation of bilayer vesicles of a palladium complex, (ii) the concentration of organic substrates at the hydrophobic region of the bilayer membrane, and (iii) the catalytic transformation of the substrate with the palladium species, all located in a close diffusion distance, automatically occurred in water.  Thus, for example, the oxirane ring opening reaction with arylboron reagents was found to proceed in water where the vesicle structure of the palladium complex was essential to promote catalysis.
