Fish Conference in Prague

Last week the XVII European Congress of Ichthyology took place in Prague. The main co-organizer was Zuzana Musilová from the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, Charles University, who organized the conference together with colleagues from the Czech University of Life Sciences and the Institute of Animal Physiology and Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Almost 200 participants from 47 countries (not only European) came to Prague to present their fish research. The conference had a broad scope and hosted contributions from different fields of research on fish. In 120 talks, attendees could hear about fish evolution and genetics, fish ecology or systematics, and several special symposia were also devoted to, for example, fossil fishes, sex chromosomes, or non-native fish species in Europe. The conference was also attended by participants involved in conservation projects and the protection of Europe's fish.

The European Congress of Ichthyology is held once every three years and returned to Prague after 22 years (one year later than planned due to covid), and this time it has also been considered a great success.
