“3D CULTURES FOR THERAPY AND RESEARCH"

The 3D cultures of various cell types or multicellular systems represent an invaluable tool for biomedical research. It is confirmed that the functional behaviour of cells in 3D conditions differs from the standard monolayer cultures, more closely mimicking the natural microenvironment. Various approaches of 3D cell culture are currently applied to develop tissue-engineered substitutes, modulate cell/stem cell properties, or establish advanced 3D disease models. The presentation will cover the use of 3D cultures for the improvement of paracrine properties of multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) and their use in pre-clinical models. We will discuss challenges in low-temperature preservation of 3D cultures, and MSC-derived secretome. Additionally, we will touch on the topic of the establishment of modelling systems using scaffold-free or scaffold-based 3D cultures.
