34th International Biology Olympiad - the Silver and Bronze Ages continue
UAE managed to organize the competition in a record time of 11 months, very well - with the contribution of an international team of experts (one of them was Jan Černý, a member of the international advisory board, again from the Faculty of Scien
ce of Charles University). The competition was attended by a record 79 countries, a total of almost 300 competitors - who "did it" in plant molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics and evolutionary ethology (topics of practical tasks) and theoretical tasks, most of which could be part of at least the bachelor's exam.
Another interesting circumstance of this year's competition is that the winner of the BiO Central Round, Daniel Čičovský (who was sure to participate in Al Ain because of his victory) gave up his participation (after winning the silver medal last year) in favour of someone else - so that as many competitors from the Czech Republic as possible could experience the unrepeatable atmosphere of the prestigious international competition!
And how did our students succeed, among others, intensively prepared at our faculty during the selection camp? They all won a medal for the tenth time in a row! This year there were two bronze and two silver medals!!! Anežka Zamouřilová, Martin Kubeš, Matěj Pokorný and Šimon Vlach were great!!! The youngest Šimon Vlach was the best in the end and we look forward to a great challenge for him to do even better next year in Kazakhstan!!! But the biggest star of the evening was the mole.
By the way, Dan Čičovský, Anežka Zamouřilová and Matěj Pokorný have been accepted to our faculty for the new bachelor's degree program SCIENCE!!!
