Plant growth-promoting bacteria from
Arabian deserts as biofertilizers

Dr. Lukáš Synek

(Institute of Experimental botany, AVČR)

The rhizosphere, a narrow soil region around plant roots, contains a variety of microorganisms that can help plants to adapt to various stresses coming from the environment. We isolated several bacterial strains from desert plants and identified those with the best plant growth promoting effect. We revealed details of the root colonization process as well as new aspects of the plant-bacterial interactions at the physiological and molecular level.

The speaker focuses on plant cell biology and fluorescent microscopy in Arabidopsis. This research was conducted at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia. As a traveler and photographer he also explored the mysterious Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with his three-year stay.
