Radim Kettner Award
Professor Radim Kettner (1891–1967) was one of the most prominent Czech naturalists and has been considered as a founder of modern Czech geology. His scientific career was closely connected to the Institute. The Radim Kettner Award is delivered every year to acknowledge publications in top-class scientific journals and thus also promotion of the Institute in the international scientific community. The Award is bestowed in three cathegories. It can be given to anyone, even outside the University, who significantly contributed to the development and success of the Institute. The Award laureates receive a commemorative medal and the Award is also associated with a 10,000 CZK reward. Members of the Award committee are Jindřich Hladil (Institute of Geology, Czech Academy of Sciences), Martin Košťák (Institute of Geology and Palaentology), Michal Mergl (University of West Bohemia in Pilsen), Jan Pašava (Czech Geological Survey), Martin Svojtka (Institute of Geology, Czech Academy of Sciences) and Jiří Žák (Institute of Geology and Palaentology).
