Joint Carpathian and Sedimentary excursion (MG421T15)
June 25 to July 2, 2023: Geological student field excursion focused on Eastern Carpathians (NE Romania) will be examining mostly Alpine units at the profiles from Piatra Neamt to Lacu Rosu and at the north-south transect through Ceahlau National Parc. Open to all students.

Exposures will include:
Current foreland basin occupied with undeformed continental molasse, Cenozoic nappes formed by marine turbidites filling older foreland basin (fine grained turbidites with spiculite, coarse grained calciturbidites, bitumenous marls), Mesozoic (meta)dolomites, Lower Cretaceous limestones, Ditrau Alkaline Massif (gabbro, monzonite, granite, nepheline syenite) we will visit also Calimani sulfur mine. We will also stop half-way at Boskovice Basin and/or Tokai.
Cultural sites may include visit of Secu, Sihastria and Neamt monasteries.
Transportation by minibuses from and back to university (Albertov) is covered. Students will be responsible for accommodation (low cost bed and breakfast, campsites, mountain huts) and field equipment.
Please make sure you take with you hammer, pencil, field notebook, hard A4 clipboard, measuring tape, waterproof jacket, sleeping bag, tent. Shower will not be available on daily basis, but hopefully rivers will be available ;-)
Maximum number of participants is 14, first come first serve basis.
