Donation of nine old maps by Mrs Helga Serrano Miksch

In February 2018, the Map Collection received a valuable donation consisting of nine old maps by Mrs Helga Serrano Miksch. Three of the maps date back to the 17th century and the other six were published in the 18th century. Among their authors were such distinctive cartographers as Gerhard Mercator, Matthäus Seutter or Johann Christoph Müller. The maps were acquired prior to the World War II in Berlin by Mrs Serrano-Miksch's father, Leonhard Miksch (1901-1950). He was a prominent German economist and advisor to the later German chancellor Ludwig Erhard. He was also responsible for the preparation of the monetary reform in 1949. Mr Miksch was born in Teplice in northern Bohemia, it thus comes as no surprise that more than half of the maps have a distinctive Bohemical character.
The Map Collection is very thankful for the precious gift.
