Opening ceremony - rare Map Collection Faculty of Science, Charles University

we would like to invite you to the opening ceremony of the Map Collection Faculty of Science (Charles University).
On Thursday, March 21. 2013 at 14.00 at the Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Science, Albertov 6, Praha 2 (2nd floor) will be held the opening ceremony of the Map Collection Faculty of Science (Charles University).
“The largest university collection of cartographic documents in Central Europe, Map Collection of the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague, will be re-opened after two years of reconstruction. The collection includes 130 000 maps, 2 000 atlases and 90 globes. It contains original works of John Amos Comenius or Wenceslaus Hollar, rare manuscripts of third military mapping from the Vienna archives, ethnographic maps from P. J. Šafařík, maps from the inheritance of J. Barrande and paper inflatable globe from 1831. The oldest dated map is a Vienna plan from A. Hirschvogel" (1547).

The Map collection will be open to the public:
from 26 March 2013
- every Tuesday and Thursday from 10-12 am and 13-15 pm
- Wednesday – open for declared school excursions
