PGS Study Program

The study program is based on the interconnection and synthesis of geographic information systems, cartography and remote sensing disciplines. It provides students with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in these disciplines, introduces modern methodological approaches and techniques and tools in these fields and the possibilities of their use in solving current problems in natural and social, especially geographical sciences with an emphasis on interdisciplinary overlaps.

edu

The program includes scientific research in the field of:

  • advanced methodological and technological procedures for spatial data analysis in geographic information systems and their applications
  • data collection and analysis using advanced remote sensing methods
  • theory of database systems design and spatial data distribution
  • organization, standardization, modeling and interpretation of spatial data
  • development of advanced tools for raster and vector data analysis
  • digital technology of modern map creation, development of new methods of automated processing of cartographic data and cartographic production systems
  • distribution and user access to spatial information on the Internet
  • creation and governance of national and transnational geoinformation infrastructure.

The aim of the study is also to create conditions for student participation in international scientific research collaboration and gaining necessary communication and professional skills, especially in the form of internships at foreign institutions.

Possibilities of emloyment of graduates

The graduates have deep theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of geoinformatics, cartography and remote sensing and they are specialists in one of these fields. They can independently solve theoretical and practical tasks and use modern tools and technologies in the field of spatial data acquisition, analysis, interpretation and synthesis. They become distinctive scientific persons, can apply the acquired knowledge and skills as well as the ability of creative thinking to solve complex scientific problems. Emphasis is placed on developing the ability to work in an international team and establish international contacts in the professional community.

The graduates will be able to successfully apply for research, consultancy or management positions in scientific institutes, universities, state institutions and the commercial sector in interdisciplinary research, development and applications in the field of Earth sciences, environmental, technical and social sciences, specifically in the areas of geoinformation systems, cartographic production systems, image data processing and analysis, spatial modeling and animation, geoinformation database technology development and design of geoinformation infrastructures.
