Modern mehods in soil ecology

Kurz tématicky navazuje na Introduction to soil science, soil organic matter dynamics, and related laboratory techniques, jenž běžel v zimním semestru a byl zaměřen na základní půdní parametry a jejich analýzu. 

V kurzu Modern mehods in soil ecology  (MO550P33) se ponoříte hlouběji do metod:

• naučíte se analyzovat aktivitu půdních organismů pomocí stanovení respirace (produkce CO2) na plynovém chromatografu a dekompozičních procesů (tzv. litter bags)
•  analýzou stabilních izotopů budete zkoumat priming effect substrátů na rozklad organické hmoty
• pomocí stanovení fosfolipidových mastných kyselin se naučíte stanovovat podíl bakterií a hub v půdách.

The course thematically follows the Introduction to soil science, soil organic matter dynamics, and related laboratory techniques, which ran in the winter semester and was focused on basic soil parameters and their analysis.

In the course Modern Mehods in Soil Ecology (MO550P33) you will dive deeper into the methods:

The course will focus on the biological properties of soils and modern analytical methods

• The stress will be put especially on the activity of soil biota which will be determined as carbon dioxide (CO2) production measured on a gas chromatograph and decomposition process using CO2 production from the decomposed substrate and use of litter bags.
• Thanks to stable isotopes, the priming effect of labile substrates on organic matter decomposition will be assessed.
• Also, methods on microbial biomarkers such as phospholipid fatty acids will be included which are useful to determine the proportion of bacterial and fungal abundance.
