THE COMPANY OF BIOLOGISTS FUNDING SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGHS
Encouraging Innovation and Diversity
The Company of Biologists has a long and proud history of funding a range of charitable programmes that enable biologists to collaborate on important scientific research that contributes to new discoveries and treatments. Income generated from the publication of our three internationally renowned journals: Development,Journal of Cell Science and The Journal of Experimental Biology, as well as our two newer Open Access journals: Disease Models & Mechanisms (DMM) andBiology Open (BiO) is reinvested in the community. This money provides grants, travelling fellowships and sponsorship to noteworthy scientists, meetings and societies around the world.
The Company has donated in excess of £7,000,000 to charitable works in the biological sciences.
Scientific Meeting Grants
We will consider funding requests from the organisers of a range of charitable activities deemed to lie within its remit. These include, but are not limited to, meetings, workshops and conferences in the fields covered by our journals, support of young scientists and funding for plenary or keynote speakers attending meetings.
Small Meeting Grants
We will consider applications for a grant towards the cost of running a small meeting within the fields of the company's journals. Such a meeting would normally be a local one on a small budget.
Postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers are invited to apply for funding to the relevant journal in their research field for collaborative visits to other laboratories. These are designed to offset the cost of travel and other expenses.
