Developmental and Cell Biology

Biomedicine Study Programmes

Characterization of the field

Developmental biology is the study of the life cycle and the process by which organisms reproduce, develop and grow (in normal and pathological states). Modern developmental biology studies the genetic control and molecular mechanisms of cell growth, differentiation, miovement of multicellular complexes (morphogenesis) and regeneration, which are the processes that gives rise to tissues, organs and three dimensional anatomy. Embryology is a subfield, the study of organisms between the one-cell stage (generally, the zygote) and the end of the embryonic stage, which is not necessarily the beginning of free living individuum. The discipline therefore integrated the methodological approaches of molecular biology, genetics, cellular biology and morphology and cover large field of biological sciences.

Subject-area Board

The subject-area board is available in Czech (Oborová rada). The Chairman is highlighted.
