The book "O parazitech a lidech" has just been released in German

The book "O parazitech a lidech" has just been released in German. This popular science publication, which won the Magnesia Litera Award for Non-fiction in 2019, is celebrating another success, this time beyond national borders. It is currently being published under the title "Von Parasiten und Menschen" by the German publishing house Springer Berlin.

The book, which achieved success in the domestic scene a few years ago, is spreading the good name of Czech science abroad. In German, the book can be ordered from the Springer publisher's website.

If you don't already have it in Czech in your library, you can still purchase it, for example, here.

From the Magnesia Litera website:

Diseases caused by parasites are responsible for the deaths of one million people each year. Leading Czech parasitologists, led by Jan Votýpka, offer an extraordinary view behind the scenes of this massacre. They present the world of parasites not only as a bloody spectacle, but also as proof of the incredible diversity of earthly life.

The reader will learn almost everything about parasites. They will understand that parasites belong on our planet and are absolutely indispensable for life on Earth. They will not only learn about their evolution, but also about the history of their discovery. They will glimpse the refined tricks by which the parasite changes its host's body for its own benefit, sometimes exhibiting directly Machiavellian abilities. The authors demonstrate that parasites do not always harm humans, but sometimes even benefit them. This extraordinary book deals with an important topic that is usually of little interest to the public. And it does so in a very accessible, entertaining form.
