The first year started in October 2021 and finished in March 2022, the second year started in October 2022 and finished in March 2023. The topics of this course are drivers of urban change, smart city development and interdisciplinary urban studies methodologies applied to cases in the Czech Republic, Poland and Italy.
The final conference was organised by the Faculty of Science, Department of Social Geography and Regional Development, Charles University. The entire two-day programme was prepared by two members of the Urban and Regional Laboratory research team - Assoc. RNDr. Martin Ouředníček, Ph.D. and Adel Petrović M.Sc. et M.A. together with Master's students in Geography Jakub Kraft and Daniel Bečvář and the Head of the Map Collection Eva Novotná, PhD.
The students presented the outputs of their research projects: suburbanization, smart villages, social housing, urban planning, urban greenery... These are some of the topics that students presented during two panels on the first day of the conference.
On the second day, Dr. Karolina Wojciechowska, the main coordinator of the project, led a panel discussion and asked for feedback from the participants. Positive aspects pointed out that the course is interdisciplinary, interactive and international, providing practical knowledge and preparing students not only for academic but also professional careers. Students mentioned that face-to-face meetings, not only at the end but also at the beginning of the course, would make research and their involvement in it more relevant, easier and more fluid. Over the two days, participants were treated to a guided tour of central Prague, a visit to the Map Collection and participation in workshops aimed at integrating with colleagues from other universities and developing international contacts.
