Popular Science: Leishmanias under microscope
Leishmania are single-celled protozoa not very well known in our country. In southern latitudes, however, it is a feared parasite that annually takes the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. This alarming fact has prompted European scientists to join together to control this epidemic. Research within the EuroLeish network happens to be taking place at the Faculty of Science - Charles University.

Conifers are more at home here than previously thought
What did Czech forests originally look like before the intervention of human hands? The answer to that question is important not only for today’s conservationists, but for practically everyone whose work involves forests. As part of the LONGWOOD Project, Petr Kuneš and his team from our Department of Botany are helping to find the answer.

New Book: Alchemy and Rudolf II, Ivo Purš, Vladimír Karpenko (eds.)
The book Alchemy and Rudolf II provide a superb conspectus of the state of scholarship in its given field. It is the fruit of an international collaboration and at least half of the text has been written by the two editors, Ivo Purš and Vladimír Karpenko. The book is now available in English version.
