The conference is organised by the European Society of Muscle Research (ESMR). The Society was founded in 1971 and its aims are to organise annual international conferences on muscle biology and cell motility in different European countries; to provide a platform for interaction between scientists working in the field of skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle and cell motility research and to encourage interdisciplinary research collaboration within and outside Europe; to encourage young scientists to become involved in this research and to offer them the opportunity to present and discuss their work in an informal setting.
