Inorganic Chemistry

Characteristics of the field

Inorganic chemistry is an interdisciplinary branch of chemistry. The main research directions are focused on "Chemistry of Materials" and "Coordination Chemistry". Both the orientations are included in the following characterization of the offered lectures, courses and research projects.

Inorganic Chemistry - Material Chemistry
Synthesis of new compounds and materials by the reactions in solutions and melts, characterization of their structure (x-ray analysis, spectral, thermal and magnetic properties). Searching of the relations between structure and properties with attention on potential applications. Study of the possible phase transitions.

Inorganic Chemistry - Coordination and Bioinorganic Chemistry
Synthesis of new macrocyklic ligands, aminoalkylphosphonic and phosphinic acids and investigation of their coordination properties both in diluted solutions (potentiometry, UV-VIS and NMR spectroscopy). Determination of structure both in solution and in the solid state ( spectral methods, magnetic properties, x-ray structure). Investigation of these compounds is oriented to their application in medicine. Study of organometalic compounds comes from research of ferrocene ligands and is focused on catalysis. Photochemistry is oriented on reactions of the singlet oxygen.

Projects 1 - 3 are solved in frame of international programs supported by EU - "Network of Excellence" and "COST D38". In addition, they are supported from program "Nanotechnology for Society" and are resolved in cooperation with Institute of Experimental Medicine (IEM) AV CR, Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (IKEM) and firm Interpharma Praha a.s. Ph.D. theses can be supervised simultaneously in cooperation with foreign universities.
