Science and Research

Physiology is characterized by its complexity and interdisciplinary approach to the study of life processes and thanks to its very broad theoretical scope and research occupies a central position within other fields of natural science.

Areas of Research

Depending on the area of specialization, the research activities of department employees take place in five work groups. These groups are not isolated closed units, but rather work closely together within the framework of research projects. In addition, there has traditionally been and continues to be considerable collaboration here with other centers of basic and applied research (e.g. Physiological Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the National Institute for Mental Health, the Institute of Endocrinology, the National Institute of Public Health, the Charles University Medical Faculty in Prague) as well as institutions abroad such as the University of Glasgow, University of Milan, University of Padua, State University of New York, Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology in Warsaw, and the Institute of Molecular Physiology and Genetics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava).
