MASTER’S STUDIES

The Department of Physiology offers master’s degrees in two areas of study: Animal and Human Physiology and Neurobiology.

Students with general knowledge of biology and a foundation in the exact sciences will attain expertise in physiology with an emphasis on more in-depth knowledge of the mechanisms of physiological processes at a molecular and cellular level, including integral physiological functions of organisms and their regulation. Animal and Human Physiology specializes for example in the physiology of muscles, thermoregulatory function, environmental physiology, molecular endocrinology, pharmacology and toxicology.  Neurobiology specializes primarily in the physiology of the nervous system, electrophysiology, the neurobiology of memory and behavioral pharmacology.

As graduates master specialized methodologies in physiology, electrophysiology and molecular biology, they are able to independently conduct basic and targeted scientific research, work with scientific literature, plan, prepare, carry out and assess experiments and publish their results. Because of this, graduates find work conducting basic or targeted research at scientific institutions, schools, clinics or other health care facilities,  or as managers in the pharmaceutical industry or in government. Naturally, they are well prepared to continue their studies in doctoral programs, especially in biomedicine.

We recommend that undergraduate students complete the courses listed in the recommended study plan (® Recommended undergraduate curriculum for those interested in pursuing a master’s degree in the field of Animal Physiology) as these subjects are essential for the master’s program.
