10th June 2020 Prof. Petr Pyšek has been honoured as the 2021 Alfred Russel Wallace awardee by the International Biogeography Society. As they say: "Since the mid 1970s, Dr. Pyšek has published numerous insightful and foundational papers on biogeographic, ecological, and evolutionary aspects of plant invasions in major journals. He is a towering figure in plant invasion biology and biogeography, contributing important articles at a staggering clip, with an outstanding >380 publications in indexed journals (including TREE, Science, PNAS, Nature and Ecology). He is editor of 25 books and journal special issues, and author of more than 70 book chapters. His work reached over 50,000, according to Google Scholar. It is impossible to publish on species invasions, the massive rearrangement of the biogeography of the earth, without citing Petr’s publications." |

15th September 2018 Eliška Padyšáková from the Insect Communities group has been honored by the prestigious Peter Ashton Prize, the award of Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation to the best article written by a student published in the scientific journal Biotropica. Eliška was awarded for the research article “Sunbird hovering behavior is determined by both the forager and resource plant” originated from her Ph.D. thesis under supervision of Štěpán Janeček. They evidenced at least some sunbirds resemble hummingbirds on some behavioral adaptations of highly specialised hovering during nectar feeding. 25th October 2017 The 3rd Marcin Antczak Award for the most inspiring ornithological paper published in 2016 in a peer-reviewed journal by young who originates from Poland, the Czech Republic or Slovakia goes to Dr Michal Šulc. 10 th January 2017 Review by Irena Šímová and David Storch won the first (2015) Ecography E4 award (The Ecography Award for Excellence in Ecology and Evolution). Paper tackle an important but highly challenging topic, the measurement and, estimation, and biogeographical role of terrestrial primary productivity (NPP) on a global scale. The review is thorough and in-depth in its coverage and remarkably successful in explaining complicated problems.

These shots were taken a priori for the exhibition "The Beauty of Butterfly Wings" in the National Museum in Prague. |

5 November 2010 Lukáš Kratochvíl and Petr Keil received awards of the dean of the Faculty of Science, which were presented during the second scientific conference of the faculty. Lukáš was awarded in the category of young faculty members, Petr among the best PhD graduates. Both awardees gave lectures about results of their research. |

5 November 2010 Members of the department were again successful in the faculty competition of scientific photography and artwork Science Is Beautiful. Martin Černý won the first prize in the category Science photography with his picture Landing.... Using a sequence of five shots taken within approximately half-second moment, this picture shows a hunting dragonfly landing on a stick. Within the same category, Adam Petrusek received a third prize for the series of underwater photographs of nudibranch snails from the Mediterranean Sea, which were taken during the field excursions to the island Brač in Croatia. |
