Cover page of the journal Global Ecology and Biogeography focuses on biological invasions

Cover page of the May issue of Global Ecology and Biogeography (IF 5.304) illustrates the work of Petr Pyšek, Vojtěch Jarošík form the Department of Ecology and their Czech and foreign collaborators. The paper Contrasting patterns in the invasions of European terrestrial and freshwater habitats by alien plants, insects and vertebrates

summarizes for the first time the numbers of alien species in representative habitats across Europe and explores the determinants of the patterns observed.

The analysis is one of the results of pan-European projects ALARM (Assessing Large Scale Environmental Risks with Tested Methods) and DAISIE (Delivering Alien Invasive Species Inventories for Europe) , which collected available data on alien species in Europe from all taxonomic groups and made it possible, for the first time, to evaluate biological invasions form the continental perspective.
