Lattice sheet microscopy: from single plane illumination to superresolution in 3D

15.1. 2015, 9:00-10:30 in B2 room (Vinicna 7, Prague 2)
Čas 15.01.2015

Language of the meeting is English.

Systems to be presented: Lightsheet Z1 (Zeiss), Open SPIM initiative, diSPIM and Lattice LightSheet (Intelligent Imaging Innovations)
Fields of interest: superresolution microscopy, developmental biology, tumor biology, medicine in general (large 3D objects up to 2 cm of size), SW and HW development
Forget the slides, this technique is developed for whole organismal imaging in real time and 3D with superresolution. Nobel prize awardee Eric Betzig's development has been licensed to Zeiss and sublicensed to Intelligent Imaging Innovations.
As a primer, read Eric Betzig's seminal paper on the lattice sheet microscopy in Science and enjoy his presentation on Vimeo.

Talks:

9,00 - 9,15: Karel Drbal (Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague):
Welcome words and introduction to current superresolution microscopy in Prague and at the FacSci, CUNI

9,15 - 10,30: Jacques Paysan (CARL ZEISS, Halle-Neustadt, Germany):
Lightsheet microscopy: presence and future of the most advanced 3D microscopy technique for large sample imaging

There is a call for short-term visit projects on advanced microscopy techniques available on the AIC webpage. Deadline is January 30, 2015. Visiting scientists will spend 1-2 weeks (or longer if there is justified scientific reason) at Janelia Farm to conduct experiments on a microscope with the support of the AIC team. The currently available microscopes, which provide advanced capabilities that are not yet widely available, are:

  • Interferometric Photoactivated Localization Microscope (iPALM)
  • Single-molecule Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (smTIRF) Microscope
  • Aberration-corrected Multifocus Microscope (acMFM)
  • Lattice Light Sheet Microscope (2nd generation Bessel Beam Microscope)
  • Live Cell Multicolor Structured Illumination Microscope (SIM)
