Genome editing using variants of programmable CRISPR/Cas nucleases has revolutionized plant science and the breeding of novel crop varieties. The CRISPR nucleases are robust, efficient, and simple. Yet most current protocols rely on in-vitro transformation and regeneration of plants with transgene carrying specific gene-editing reagents. Plant viruses can make gene editing in plants even simpler.
