Auxin transport and signaling for cell polarity and development

Prof. Jiri Friml, Ph.D., Dr.rer.nat.

(Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria))

Plant hormone auxin acts as a versatile trigger of developmental change and its distribution depends on the polar, cellular distribution of PIN auxin transporters. Within cells, PINs undergo constitutive cycles of a clathrin-dependent endocytosis and recycling to the plasma membrane providing conceptual possibility to redirect auxin fluxes in response to different signals including gravity. This lecture will provide new insights into this fascinating plant-specific mechanism and its role in plant development.
