Ken Yokawa, PhD. (Department of Plant Cell Biology, University of Bonn, Germany): Anesthetized plants and animals: what happens in cells?
Anotace:
Anesthesia for medical purposes was coincidentally introduced in the 19th century. It is essential for many medical treatments, especially for painful surgery. Interestingly, the exact mode of the anesthetic drug action on nervous system is totally unknown so far. French physiologist Claude Bernard performed elegant experiments in the last century showing that Mimosa plant was anesthetized under diethyl ether treatment. In this seminar, I will discuss current hypotheses why or how anesthetics affect humans, and animals, and plants.
