Archeogenetická laboratoř

Archeogenetický tým, jehož laboratoř se nachází na Archeologickém ústavu AVČR, se primárně zaměřuje na populační dějiny Afriky a Arábie s tématy evoluce, migrace anatomicky moderních lidí a zajímá se také o následný vliv subsistenčních strategií na genetickou strukturu a zdraví jednotlivých lidských populací. Holocenní klimatické změny a optima totiž vedle obousměrné migrace umožnily také expanzi nových životních strategií. Jednou z nejvýznamnějších - neolitická tranzice (přechod na zemědělský a sedavý životní styl), způsobila fixaci nově vznikajících alel, které lze detekovat genetickými metodami zaměřenými na nerekombinantní části lidského genomu, např. mitochondriální DNA či NRY, ale i na specifické jaderné markery.

Výzkum těchto genetických otisků (např. změny enzymatických aktivit jakožto důsledek adaptace na zemědělství v různých světových regionech) překlenuje hranice mezi tradičními kategoriemi vědecké práce v humanitních a přírodovědných oborech. Přesah od základního výzkumu genetické variability člověka podmíněného kulturními a historickými faktory nadále ústí do perspektivních výzkumných směrů, jakými je evoluční medicína nebo farmakogenetika a nabízí tak studentům profilování ve více oborech.
