EduServ5 - Methods for checking and improving Digital Terrain Models

Course Objectives
It is the objective of this course to get acquainted with methods which check and improve existing digital terrain models automatically. Results with these methods and test material of a EuroSDR project, comprising three DTMs derived from photogrammetry, scanning of contour lines and laserscanning, are presented. The applied methods use mainly photogrammetry and correlation techniques.
Course Outline
Module 1
The first module characterizes the three methods of deriving DTMs.
Module 2
An overview on the methods of checking and improving DTMs is given. The quality measures and visualization of the DTM quality are presented.
Module 3
The method of two overlapping orthoimages is explained in detail. It includes the derivation of orthoimages, the principles of matching of overlapping orthoimages and the detection/removal of blunders. Programs in MatLab will be presented in order to receive insights how the task can be realized.
Module 4
Results with the EuroSDR test material and with different checking methods are presented.
