General Information
The Faculty of Sciences boasts high quality teaching, an excellent research and academics who are leading professionals in their disciplines. The Faculty is divided into five principal parts, each of which is responsible for teaching and research in one of the five main subject areas practiced at the Faculty (biology, chemistry, geography, geology and environmental science).
Study organization
Studies at the Faculty of Sciences are intended primarily to prepare students for a professional career and teaching (at high schools) in biology, chemistry, geography, geology and environmental science. They are divided into three cycles:
Pre-graduate study

A bachelor's degree cycle (generally 3 years), which leads to a Bachelor's degree (Bc.)

A master's degree cycle (generally an additional 2 years), which leads to a Master's degree (Mgr.)
Post-graduate study
-
Postgradual studies (generally 3 years), which lead to the awarding of a Doctorate (Ph.D).
The faculty offers study programs in the Czech and English languages. We aim to attract highly motivated and talented students from around the world who wish to study abroad. The international students receive the same education as the Czech students, who are selected according to a high standard. Winter and summer semesters last for at least 13 weeks, with examination periods in between them; the students are obliged to pass up to five examinations after each semester. The main holidays are in August. The students are enrolled in September.
Pre-graduate study
The faculty at present offers 9 study programmes at the Bachelor level and 8 study programmes at the Master level.
Post-graduate study
The aim of the Doctoral Studies is to lead students to independent research and to provide them the appropriate qualifications. The specific study programme is organized in a full-time (internal) or a part-time (external) mode of study.
Admission
Anyone interested in attending the Faculty of Science as an undergraduate student should sent the Application form to the address : Albertov 6, 128 43 Praha 2, Czech Republic.
In addition to the Application, a nostrification of the previous education is required (for foreign applicants) - for Bachelor's applicants, a certificate of nostrification from the high school attended, and for Master's applicants a certificate from the Bachelor's level.
Deadline: end of February.
Announced requirements are different for every academic year - please check.
Language of study
The faculty offers study programmes in the Czech language or in the English language (with tuition fees).
Enrollment of applicants studying in the English language
Applicants who successfully passed their entrance examination are enrolled for study.
Before arrival in Prague the student is obliged:
- to send a copy of the cheque covering the tuition fee
- to complete an application form for accommodation at student residence
- to provide information pertaining to the expected time of arrival (by mail, fax or e-mail).
Permission to enter the Czech Republic is only granted after all these preconditions have been met, and the applicant has obtained the relevant letter or fax from the Office of Education and Student Affairs. The Faculty accepts no responsibility for the applicant's travel expenses, their accommodation or any inconvenience caused by their unexpected arrival.
Tuition fees
Tuition fees are to be paid by bank transfer in any convertible currency or by cheque to the account:

Fees must be paid prior to the beginning of the academic year, and a record of the payment must be presented to the Student Department prior to enrollment. Only in special cases may tuition fees be paid on a semester-by-semester basis.
a) In accordance with paragraph six under the Law of the Universities n. 172 from May 1990, tuition fees are free of tax.
b) In the case of absence and / or failing to fulfill course requirements, the Faculty of Science will not reimburse the fees already paid. In the case of illness or absence for other health reasons, the Faculty will reimburse the appropriate proportion of the fee.
c) Once foreign students comply with the tuition fee requirements, they have the same rights as Czech students. No scholarship can be deduced from tuition fees and the latter do not cover room and board and travel expenses.
d) The financial policies described above are applicable for the 2012/2013 academic year and may be subject to alteration in the future.

Throughout their studies, all foreign students must observe all laws regarding a foreigner's residence in the Czech Republic. Permission for long-term residence is required.
