Biology

The study programme in Biology with the following study branches:

  • Biology

The BSc. curriculum "Biology" provides a complex education in biology with the necessary basics of chemistry, physics and mathematics. The graduate achieves an extensive erudition both in laboratory and field biology. Her/his integral and thorough biological education lays a solid groundwork for continued study in a large variety of consecutive MSc. curricula focused on biological topics, and also provides the training necessary to obtain adequate positions and jobs in laboratories and institutes of both basic and applied biological, biomedical and pharmaceutical research. Moreover, graduates acquire a solid understanding of state administration (conservation issues, biological monitoring), natural history museums, botanical and zoological gardens, etc.
  • Ecological and Evolutionary Biology

  • Biology Oriented toward Education (two-subjects)

The graduate has gained a fundamental expertise in individual fields of biology. He/she is capable of continuing in the respective Master's studies. The graduate may employ his/her earned qualifications in institutions providing training and education, with the option of being an assistant teacher.

Special Chemical and Biological Programmes

Study programme in Special Chemical and Biological Programmes with the following study branch:

  • Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Organisms

The graduate has received a broad education in experimental biology, biochemistry and biomedicine, as well as an extended foundation in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. This type of interdisciplinary training gives the graduate a good background for further studies for the Master's Degree in various branches of experimental biology. It also enables the graduate to easily find employment with laboratories carrying out basic or applied scientific research, as well as at those in the medical, agricultural, food and chemical industries. Further employment possibilities are in public administration wherever sophisticated instrumentation handling skills are required, e.g. in environmental or GMO monitoring, or in sanitation.

Chemistry

The study programme in Chemistry with the following study branches:

  • Chemistry in Natural Science

Graduates have received an exhaustive university-level education in the following chemical disciplines: inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, macromolecular chemistry, nuclear chemistry and biochemistry. The bachelor's degree earner will be sufficiently educated even in mathematics, physics and computer science. The practical skills of a bachelor's degree earner are guaranteed by his/her passing through a Practical laboratory training course in all chemical disciplines. The choice among numerous required and elective subjects enables the bachelor's degree holder to acquire an appropriate education, either for continuing in a specialised master's degree program or for entering the workforce, namely in chemical laboratories performing basic and applied research.
  • Environmental Chemistry

The graduate has received a university-level education in the chemical disciplines, namely inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, nuclear chemistry and biochemistry, and also in general biology, ecology, physics and computer science. Practical laboratory training guarantees that the bachelor's degree holder has practical skills for solving various problems in the field of environmental chemistry. The bachelor's degree holder has acquired appropriate knowledge that enables him to work in laboratories and environmental departments of industrial and agricultural enterprises or in environmental sections of administrative bodies. The education he receives provides him with the necessary foundation for continuing in a master degree course of Environmental chemistry.
  • Chemistry Oriented toward Education (one-subject)

Graduates acquire wide-ranging knowledge and practical skills in all aspects of chemistry including chemistry educational systems. The bachelor's study program is, above all, the first stage in achieving the full qualification (M.Sc.) required for teaching at high schools. The bachelor's degree enables work in various educational institutions, editorial houses or media and chemistry laboratories.
  • Chemistry Oriented toward Education (two-subjects)

Graduates acquire basic knowledge and practical skills in all aspects of chemistry including chemistry educational systems. The study program is, above all, the first stage in achieving the full qualification (M.Sc.) required for teaching at high schools. The bachelor's degree enables work in various educational institutions, editorial houses or media.

Biochemistry

Study programme in Biochemistry with the following study branch:

  • Biochemistry

The graduate has acquired basic theoretical knowledge and practical skill in the main biochemical and molecular biological fields. Graduates find employment in research laboratories of various scientific institutions and universities. Moreover, they can work in clinical laboratories of medical facilities, in various pharmaceutical institutions and in environmental control laboratories. Some of them continue in an Extended Master's Degree study program either in our republic or abroad.

Clinical and Toxicological Analysis

Study programme in Clinical and Toxicological Analysis with the following study branch:

  • Clinical and Toxicological Analysis

Graduates of the BSc program in Clinical and Toxicological Analysis find employment primarily in laboratories, on production lines and in control departments of industrial institutions, offices and public management organs. They head research, production, commercial or administrative teams observing good laboratory practices.

Geology

Study programme in Geology with the following study branches:

  • Geology

A graduate is able to study and document the rock environment, its geological structure and parameters, its interaction with the atmo-, hydro- and biospheres, and the processes of migration of components through environments. He/she gains information on protecting components of the natural environment (water, atmosphere, rocks), works with scientific data (geological, hydrological, climatic, environmental), documents field work, finds data in archives, and processes, validates and interprets all data obtained. He/she can prepare reports of research teams from geological surveys and other research institutions, in surveying and field exploration organizations (protection and exploitation of natural resources and water, solving engineering-geological and geo-technical problems) and in management and administration at all levels.
  • Applied Geobiology

  • Management of Natural Resources

Graduates have a fair knowledge of geology, environmental protection, protection of the rock environment, exploitation of mineral resources and waste management. They are acquainted with legal aspects of environmental protection. The graduate will be capable of assessing the value of individual mineral resources and their deposits, know the methods of their exploitation, be very knowledgeable about basic mining and mineral processing methods, and be able to monitor exploitation and continuously assess ecological burdens and impacts on the environment. Graduates are suited for positions in state administration, the public-service sector and private companies involved in environmental protection and exploitation of mineral resources.
  • Geology Oriented toward Education

Graduates acquire basic knowledge and practical skills in all aspects of geology including didactics, pedagogy and psychology.
